I am a mixed-media artist and painter with a playful - sometimes child-like - ‘make-do' expressionist attitude. I return to art and through art, to myself - ongoingly.
About
I explore identity, voice and healing, alongside more challenging themes of consent, escapism and loss:abstracted and through my own shifting, female perspective. Such topics require continuous coverage and exploration; pertinent to many not few and yet can become trapped within, or, or left to some other to address. These themes and the emotions they carry form the raw underpinnings of my work.
Bringing my ideas new life, my materials include what I unexpectedly find; perhaps unloved, even decaying, yet retaining power to form part of a gestalt. This principle to reuse creates unpredictable metaphor; textures emerge without asking, ‘rules’ are bent or automatically broken. I am not strict with my materials; they are tools that remodel my ideas into the perceivable. That transformation is what I wish to share.
Through art, challenging human experiences can be brought to a room without fear. Art is a voice; it’s conversation may be loud or it may be quiet and poised.
